World Book Day... TICK!

Yesterday was World Book Day, but I actually visited three schools this week to talk to the children about my Master Owl books and Zero Point Girl.

I visited Pilton Infants and Bluecoat Primary in Barnstable, Kingsbridge Community College and Eggbuckland Community College.

In total, I spent over 10 hours reading stories and taking questions from reception classes through to Year Nines. I spoke to 950 children and sold 100 books. The students at Eggbuckland Community College bought 55 Zero Point Girl books!

The feedback from the teachers has been so amazing:

"Thank you SO much for visiting us yesterday. We have had amazing feedback from the students. Many have said you were the highlight of their World Book Day, and one student is already halfway through your book! He said to me at break 'I couldn't put it down'. Multiple teachers/TA's have mentioned to me that students rarely ask questions in lessons, so it was lovely to see how engaged they were with the Q&A. I’ve had several conversations with students today about extraterrestrial life, and it’s great to see their perspectives expanding!"

As an Indie author, the best part of my job is being in front of my readers and answering their questions. I hope to inspire them to write more stories and read more books, but mostly I want to inspire them to give their ideas a go and see what happens. We all get these little 'downloads', which I see are gifts to do something with. Just like I did with Grobag, the Gro-Clock, Master Owl and Zero Point Girl.

Now it's time to have a quiet weekend and recover!

Thank you to all the schools for asking me to speak and to the children and their parents for buying so many books.

Until next World Book Day.....
